How old is this treatment?

LASIK is in existence since 1988, and has already gained wide acceptance world over.  More than 5 million people in USA have undergone LASIK.

How is LASIK better than Contact Lenses ?

Contact lenses require special care and careful maintenance.  Moreover it is a recurring expenditure.  A full 5 years use of contact lenses would cost you almost same as LASIK treatment.

Is LASIK a surgery ?

LASIK is a very simple procedure done with application of just anaesthetic drops.  It is just the reshaping of the cornea with the help of a cold laser (Exclimer Laser), with sub micron accuracy. 

How is LASIK done ?

A thin corneal flap is lifted with the help of a Hansatome which is integrated with the main machine and laser is applied on the cornea in computer controlled, predetermined manner. This flap is replaced immediately, which adheres within a minute. LASIK is not at all a complicated procedure.

Who can undergo LASIK ?

Any person above the age of 18 years whose power is stable for the last 1 year.  There is no upperage limit.

What is the latest in LASIK technology ?

machine on which it is performed. Though there are various machines
available for LASIK, Zyoptix -100 integrated with Hansatome is the best

We have now updated our machine with the latest and most advanced ZYOPTIX, which can provide SUPERVISION or EAGLES VISION in the sense that if a normal person has 6/6 visual acuity, with ZYOPTIX he can hava a better visual acuity of even 6/4 or 6/3.  Here a customised laser ablation is performed, specific to each individual eye. LASIK BY Zyoptix 100 WORK STATION Lasik has been performed at "The Eye Foundation" since 1997 and till date over 8000 Lasik procedures have been satisfactorily performed. The Zyoptix 100 Lasik Work Station integrated with the Hansatome with which we have been routinely performing Lasik was the first in India to be installed at our centre. In the year 2002, we went ahead and introduced Zyoptix treatment, an advanced software for further improving the visual standards. This year 2004, we have installed the very new Zyoptix 100 Lasik machine with unique, unbelievable modifications. The ultimate goal is a perfect quality of vision, a perfect optical system. THE LASIK MACHINE: ( Zyoptix 100) The safety and accuracy of the lasik treatment largely depends on the machine on which it is performed. Though there are various machines available for Lasik, Zyoptix 100 integrated with Hansatome is the best workstation trusted and accepted worldwide. Zyoptix which promises `Super Vision' or `Eagle Vision', is customized laser ablation, specific, tailor made to each individual eye. This was incorporated in our procedure two years back. The vision at the end of the treatment with Zyoptix is better than normal, actual vision and hence called Super vision. The newest and the latest is our Zyoptix 100 Lasik machine which we have acquired at our center. This has been procured within 5 months of its introduction worldwide. What is Z 100 ? Every conceivable approach to maximising accuracy and perfection in vision has been aimed at in this machine. Iris recognition feature which is a particular highlight of this machine, recognises the iris pattern, so specific, like a fingerprint map of each individual. This recognition remarkably improves centration of treatment and hence sharpens accuracy of correction. The duration of treatment has been further optimised with the high-end eye treackers, sharper focussing systems and high frequency laser delivery systems. Powers that could be corrected : With this machine we have the capability to correct -1.00 to -20.00 diopters, from +1.00 to +8.00 diopters and up to 8.00 diopters of astigmatism. This is the only system that is capable of correcting plus powers, cylindrical powers and high minus powers. Though this is designed to correct all refractive errors accurately in very high powers there may be small residual powers after the treatment. LASIK PROCEDURE: We normally perform this treatment every Wednesday and Thursday from 1.00 pm. The duration of treatment is hardly 5 minutes per eye and both eyes are treated in the same sitting. Before the treatment, a very detailed specialized examination is carried out to determine the parameters to be corrected and ensure that the eyes are fit to undergo the treatment. The initial examination takes about 1-2 hours. Patients can come on any day between 8.30 am to 6.00 pm (Sundays 9.00 am to 1.00 pm) to have a complete checkup and register for the treatment. Outstation patients can come on Tuesday/Wednesday at about 3.00 pm after prior appointment, have a complete examination and get treated the next day afternoon. This is an outpatient procedure and needs no hospitalisation. Patients can leave for home immediately after the treatment. But since we insist on seeing the patient the next day after treatment, and if the patient so desires, they are given a bath attached comfortable room to stay overnight in our hospital. After being reviewed the next day, the outstation patients can get back home. Normally we like to review out patients one week and one month latter after treatment. But patients coming from a long distance can have these checkups with their local eye specialist. PRE TREATMENT PREPARATION: Before the treatment patient should a) Mix a drop of JOHNSON'S BABY shampoo with a couple of drops of water and clean both the upper and lower eye lid margins and eyelashes with the same 4 times a day for 4 days prior to coming for treatment. b) After cleaning, apply OFLACIN eye drops 4 times a day in both eyes for 4 days before the treatment. This is just to clean the eyes. c) Have a head wash and a shave before coming for the treatment. d) Discontinue wearing semi-soft and hard contact lenses for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Soft contact lenses preferably should be discontinued for a week prior to treatment. e)There is no diet restriction. Patients can continue with all their routine activities right up to the time of coming for treatment. There are no other special procedures or clothing required while coming for the treatment except that perfumes/body sprays should be avoided. POST-TREATMENT CARE: After the treatment patients will be examined after one hour, drops will be applied and sent home. A cup that has small holes will be placed on each eye through which, the patient can continue to see. This is mainly placed to prevent the patient from rubbing the eyes and it can be taken off at home itself the next day morning. Drops have to be applied for about a week after treatment. There will be mild redness, irritation, watering immediately after treatment that usually subsides by next day morning. Patients can normally resume all their activities like attending office, college etc right from the next day after treatment. Bathing, shaving can be normally carried out. Direct rubbing of the eyes and splashing of water into the eyes are to be avoided for a week after treatment.

But since we insist on seeing the patient the next day the outstation patients can either stay back in the hospital or at any place convenient in Coimbatore and return back home after the next day review. Normally we like to review our patients one week and one month after treatment. But patients coming from a long distance can have these checkup with their local eye specialist. 

COST OF TREATMENT

Complete pre-treatment check up including specialised tests will be carried out for Rs 500/-.
Cost of the Lasik treatment by Zyoptix 100 is Rs.35,000/-. Regular Lasik Treatment (not in Z-100) will be carried out for Rs 22,000. Receipts and bills will be issued for the entire amount paid. Whatever certificates, documents are necessary for reimbursement, accounting etc, will be provided at the time of the treatment. Payment has to be made by cash (or) demand draft payable at Coimbatore in the name of "LASIK CENTER (INDIA) PVT LTD. Payments can also be accepted by visa or mastercards. Cheques are not accepted. 

The cost of the Integrated Chiron Lasik Work Station integrated with Zyoptix is about 6,25,000 USD (approximately 3 crore Indian Rupees). This has been housed in an absolutely sterile and particulate free environment at 18-22 degrees C and 45% humidity 24 hours a day. These exacting conditions ensure optimal functioning and accurate correction in every eye. For each eye a very sophisticated DISPOSABLE blade costing 65 US Dollars each is used which ensures a perfect flap and error free correction. All drapes, consumables are totally cotton free and disposable. 

We have an expensive comprehensive service contract with the principals - BAUSCH & LOMB SURGICALS with regular visits by engineers from India and abroad ensuring perfect functioning of the equipment.
